Miss Cambridge
The person who made the allegations of assault at It's A Knockout in 1975 has not waived her right to anonymity so we refer to her as Miss Cambridge.
Miss Cambridge claimed that she was assaulted by Rolf Harris when she was working as a waitress at the production of It's a Knockout held on Parkers Piece, Cambridge when she was 14. She was a schoolgirl and did this to earn some pocket money.
Mr Harris denied any recollection of appearing at this event but a member of the public produced a video showing that Mr Harris did take part in a different event of the same genre. This event was Star Games produced at Jesus Green, Cambridge in 1978, three years later.
It's a Knockout was a BBC production and Star Games was an ITV production.

We have some hard questions to ask about this sudden change mid trial because at no time was the trial stopped to allow the defence team time to investigate this. An investigation which would show up details which would throw the prosecution off balance.
With respect M'Lud I need an adjournment to ascertain the following:
Miss Cambridge claimed she was 14 at the time of the assault. She would have been a schoolgirl and we can fully accept that that she was waitressing to earn pocket money. But the prosecution now claims that she was wrong and that the incident took place some three years later when she was in fact 17.
That is a big difference in age and circumstance. At 17 Miss Cambridge would no longer be at school as she would have left school a year or so earlier. Did she still need to do waitressing to earn pocket money? Or was she now employed? If so where did she work and can we please check her work record to find out if she was on duty that day or was it a leave day?
Did she attend college perhaps and if so what was she studying? Why was she not at college on that day - or was she? We must check!
Was she unemployed perhaps and if so did her earnings from this event have to be declared? We must check that too.
In relation to the event, who actually employed Miss Cambridge?
She says she worked at It's A Knockout. It's A Knockout wouldn't be the employer so was it the BBC or perhaps it was an agency commissioned by the BBC?
But as the prosecution now change this to Star Games' was she employed by Thames Television or ITV or an agency commissioned by either of these? We must find out because we need to know exactly for which organisation Miss Cambridge was employed.
She remembers It's a Knockout in 1975 but the prosecution have changed this to Star Games in 1978 so we must adjourn so that we can find out.
Let's look at her payslips; Her bank account entries; Her school attendance; Employer attendance----we need to investigate this and find out a whole raft of information to determine whether she worked at Star Games, It's A Knockout or neither.
From that we will know if she was at school or left school.
From that we will know if she was employed or at college or unemployed.
From that we will know how old she actually was.
From that we can ascertain which show it actually was.
The trial was not adjourned and no time was allocated for any reinvestigation so the defence was not able to defend this.

WHY NOT?
Astonishingly with no reinvestigation and the Judge allowing a complete change of every aspect of this charge, including the location, age, employment status, employer, TV production company and every damned thing, Mr Harris was castigated as a LIAR because he couldn't recall being there.....wherever it was!
Look at the photo-link below right to find that other celebrities couldn't recall being there either. It's called work overload, it's a common adult phenomenon and something a teenager wouldn't understand.

We tried to investigate this but because we have no name for Miss Cambridge couldn't do very much. Identical Freedom of Information requests were sent to both the BBC and to ITV asking about aspects of the casual employment arrangements.
ITV ignored it and the BBC refused to answer it. PDF file below...

It is worth considering whether somebody who was employed by a television company as a teenager wouldn't remember more distinctly receiving her letter of acceptance and her instructions of where and when to turn up.
Her instructions would clearly state PARKERS' PIECE or JESUS GREEN - how could you forget?
A waitress at a televised celebrity game show would certainly mean she was given a uniform - does she not remember?
Miss Cambridge reported the incident at Its' a Knockout but later changed it to Star Games - how could you forget that?
She was either a schoolgirl or she had left school a year or more previously - and she couldn't remember which?
Couldn't Miss Cambridge remember what celebrities were there and didn't she recall the TV presenters?
Did Miss Cambridge not remember that if she was at It's a Knockout the presenter was STUART HALL? Did she REALLY get her bum rubbed by Rolf Harris who wasn't even there?
Come on Miss Cambridge, you've got this all totally confused haven't you and you've inadvertently helped the Metropolitan Police stitch up an innocent man!

This link gives a history of It's a Knockout and you will see there is a cross over of celebrities. In 1976 the It's a Knockout team included Michael Aspel. Now that can cause confusion because Michael Aspel was the presenter of Star Games. So if anybody says it must have been Star Games because Michael Aspel was there..NO! He was in BOTH so it could have been either.

Ely is in Cambridgeshire only 16 miles from the City - just half an hour away.
After the footage emerged of Rolf at Star Games a massive amount of work needed to be done to determine the facts. This work was not done rendering the defence grossly inadequate.
1 The basic facts already stated above were not determined.
2 The very real possibility of confusion due to both It's a Knockout and Star Games being filmed in Cambridgeshire.
3 The possible confusion caused by both It's a Knockout and Star Games using the same celebrities i.e. Michael Aspel.
4 1973 was the year Stuart Hall was found to have assaulted a girl at It's a Knockout.
Mr Harris was/is entitled to have this investigated and these questions answered.
Were Miss Cambridge's facts wrong because she was confused?
Were her facts wrong because she was lying?
Had the two events been deliberately mixed and matched by the police and prosecution? (LINK)

We just need to add a footnote - something a visitor to this site pointed out the other day. We were reminded that even though Miss Cambridge had such vague recollections of the alleged event she got the place wrong, her age wrong, the TV program wrong and EVERYTHING wrong, she said this....click to read the article.
Funny that!
