We are incensed with the injustice of the Rolph Harris case but have a few questions: 1. Did the police advertise for people to come forward with the suggestion that there could be financial compensation? 2. Did Slater and Gordon advertise similarly? 3. Were details of allegations released to the media prior to the trial? 4. What is the position with the petition? In this respect in my experience petitions do not carry much weight. In one case that I put to a local council a petition was regarded as just one submission! There is also a perception that people will sign a petition without real conviction. A far better way to make a point is to have individuals write to prominent parliamentarians. They may be reluctant to do that but if they could be persuaded to sign a letter and for someone else to send that to the Minister for Justice, say, then a bundle of letters arriving on his desk makes a forceful point. We would like to try to force matters and are just seeking the best means to do so. Regards
